Who can enter

The organisation responsible for a product or ingredient can submit an entry. This includes a brand owner, manufacturer or ingredient supplier. An authorised representative may apply on its behalf. ENS membership is not required.

  • Identify the responsible legal entity and its country of registration.
  • Give the name and contact details of the person authorised to manage the application.
  • If you act for another organisation, explain the relationship and retain evidence of your authority.

Products covered

The programme accepts entries in five categories. Each application identifies a product or ingredient specification, its intended users and a market in which it is supplied.

Products covered
CategoryTypical entries
FoodsFoods for the general diet, including cereals, dairy products and alternatives, meals and snacks.
BeveragesNon-alcoholic drinks, concentrates and powders prepared as drinks.
Food supplementsFinished supplements with defined ingredients, daily amounts and instructions.
Specialised nutritionProducts for particular life stages or nutritional needs, including clinical and infant nutrition.
Nutrition ingredientsAn identified ingredient specification supplied for stated applications.

Category and market requirements

The assessment follows the actual product category and intended use in the market covered by the entry. A brand name or marketing description alone does not establish the category.

  • Medicines and alcoholic drinks are outside the programme.
  • An unresolved safety concern, uncertain ingredient identity or unsupported market status must be resolved before an entry can be accepted.
  • Foods for special medical purposes and infant or young-child products follow their dedicated category requirements.

One application, one product version

Enter a defined formulation or ingredient specification. List the pack sizes and identifiers that you want included, together with their market versions.

Find your category

Use the questions below to find the relevant requirements. The result identifies a category; the application is checked for eligibility when you submit it.

Need help identifying the category?

Describe the product, intended users, proposed use and supply market. The awards team can help you identify the information needed for the appropriate application.

Use a general description for an initial enquiry. Confidential formulations and evidence belong in the document area of an application.

Specialist products and ingredients

Products for children, pregnancy or lactation, older people or a specific nutritional need require evidence relevant to those users. An ingredient entry also needs its identity, specification and intended applications.

A product for a specialist population may be a food, drink or supplement in its sales market. The population-specific requirements apply alongside that product category. Ingredient awards remain distinct from finished-product awards.
